Katie and Brice
A Night to Remember
Our Story
Brice and I were both RA's on campus. We knew each other from training sessions and different campus events. We had a lot of mutual friends as well. The summer before my senior year I found out through another KSU alumni that Brice had moved to my hometown for a job at Pitt. I contacted him about getting together. Brice had me over and cooked dinner for me, and we talked for HOURS about Kent, music, education, etc. I was done! We soon started dating, and I found it so hard to head back to school that fall. However, Brice made it a habit to come out and visit me almost every weekend.
He would hang out with me when I was on duty, attend my RA events, and he even attended all the events for Homecoming that year when I was on court. Brice and I loved spending time together at Kent.
The Proposal and Marriage
Brice proposed to me on March 23, 2010. We got ready in Korb Hall (where I was SRA) and then headed out for the Michael Buble concert in Cleveland. Afterward, Brice popped the question, and I, of course, said yes. We had a romantic dinner and a wonderful evening of music by my favorite singer. The next morning I had to student teach, and I remember how excited I was to show off my ring to my students! Brice and I got our engagement pictures done at Kent State. We chose Front Campus and even wore our alumni shirts. We also had pictures taken at Beckwith's Orchards. Our story began at Kent so our pictures needed to reflect that. We were married on July 16, 2011 in Greensburg, PA. We got married at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral and had our reception at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport. The day was everything we dreamed of and more. Our wedding party had 4 KSU alumni, and we had about 30 KSU alumni in attendance.
Staying Connected to Kent State Today
Brice's family is from outside of Ravenna so we are so fortunate to be able to get back to Kent and visit regularly. We like to attend Homecoming every year and hope to make that a family tradition when we have children. Brice and I love to walk through campus as well to check out the new downtown (which is incredible). In my classroom I have a Kent State pennant and a black squirrel. We both rock our KSU alumni shirts around town and both still have our alumni stickers on our cars. We are so proud of our college and are grateful that it brought us together!
