Week 9: Wrapping up research at the PRI
Ohayo gozaimasu (Good morning) from the PRI! My time here in Inuyama is coming to a close and the 8 weeks have passed quick. Next week, I will be heading to Toyko for the closing activities, including presentations from fellows of each nominating authority. I will be giving a presentation on the progress and results of my summer project as a representative for the U.S. group.
Final days in Inuyama
The past week has been spent processing data and prepping for the final presentation. My time at the Primate Research Institute has been invaluable, between learning about the unique skeletal anatomy of Japanese macaques, how to articulate them, and developing in-depth knowledge about the skeletal collection in Inuyama. I also learned about how the pQCT scanner operates, and how to use the programs, which is a skill that will be used throughout the progression of my PhD. I would like to thank Dr. Nishimura for being a wonderful host and being an excellent mentor, along with the lab and all the wonderful people I have met at the PRI for their friendship and help!
Nagoya-bound
Over the weekend, I stayed in Nagoya to do a little local sightseeing. I went to a baseball game with some JSPS fellows and visited the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology. Did you know that Toyota began as a weaving and textiles manufacturer before branching out into the automobile industry? They became involved in manufacturing cars after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 destroyed much of the public transit railways.
Next time, I will be writing from the closing ceremony in Tokyo!
Until then, sayonara!
