Communication Studies Student Interns with Pro-Model and Talent Management, Inc.

Senior applied communication major, Jessica Buck, landed an internship with Pro-Model and Talent Management as their social media coordinator. In this position, Buck is responsible for managing the company’s Facebook, Google+ and Yelp pages along with their blog. Some topics she covers in the blog include, successful Pro-Model and Talent stars, audition tips, instructor profiles and fashion and beauty tips.

“I love the things I get to do and the environment I get to work in,” Buck said. “Currently, I am writing a blog on overcoming adversity and celebrities who dealt with extreme circumstances before making it big. This job is definitely not your average internship.”

Buck chose to major in applied communication because of the flexibility it offers. She says that her communication classes have prepared her to work in any organizational setting.

“I love how up to date the content is that we learn and how there are so many types of communication,” Buck said. “My classes have prepared me to deal with any conflict or situation I come across at work.”

Before interning with Pro-Model and Talent Management, Buck was a social media intern at Event Plan-It, a wedding and event planning service in Cleveland.

When it comes to finding your next internship, Buck says not to take the first one that comes your way.

“Make sure to get into the field you want to pursue a career in, even if it isn’t a paid internship,” Buck said. “Take the things you learn and make sure to carry it into your next internship or job.”

After graduating this August, Buck would like to find a job in the entertainment and music industry working with social media.

“I definitely want to continue working with social media,” Buck said. “It is such a prevalent channel of communication today.”
