Retrieval practice in online education: what, why and how
Presented by Qunxing Ding
Description:
Retrieval practice is a process to recall the information from the memory, which has been demonstrated to enhance and boost learning, especially the long-term retention of information. Cognitive research indicated that the coding, organization and reconstructing of information during retrieval practice actually is the key factor in learning, but the students may have different predictions about their learning effects and usually lead to the early termination of retrieval practice. Establishing the instruction and testing setting is critical to promote retrieval practice in the learning process of the students. This proposal will present the preliminary data of several strategies to utilize retrieval practice in online education and discuss the effects of these strategies.
