In order to perform necessary maintenance on the boilers, steam transmission systems and electrical distribution systems, the Kent Campus Power Plant will be shut down beginning Sunday, May 13, at 12:01 a.m. The shutdown is expected to be completed Sunday, May 20, at 11:59 p.m. Because of the steam shutdown, most campus buildings will not have hot water to sinks and showers, heat and/or air conditioning.
Preventative maintenance work on the campus electrical system will take place toward the end of the steam shutdown. The electrical work will be conducted on Saturday, May 19, between 6 a.m.-8 p.m. (the backup date is May 20). This work may delay the steam shutdown completion date until Monday, May 21. Building curators will be notified if this occurs.
There is the possibility of a loss of power on campus during the electrical maintenance work. As a precaution, departments should plan on not having electricity on May 19. Those on campus can assist with the electrical work by turning off computers, printers and any other equipment before leaving for the day on Friday, May 18.
