Kent State to Celebrate New Space for LGBTQ Student Center

Center to host grand reopening on Sept. 27

麻豆传媒's newly renovated Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Student Center will hold its grand reopening celebration on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 4-6 p.m. The center is located in the Kent Student Center, Room 024 lower level.

The event will feature welcome speeches from Ken Ditlevson, director of Kent State鈥檚 LGBTQ Student Center; Alfreda Brown, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion; Dana Lawless-Andric, associate vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion; and Stephen Sokany, vice president for institutional advancement. A message from Kent State President Beverly Warren also will be presented.

Ditlevson says that the purpose of the grand reopening is to celebrate the accomplishment of building a new space for the LGBTQ+ community, acknowledge the need for such spaces and support toward underrepresented communities, reiterate that the LGBTQ+ community on campus is strongly valued and invite the community to be involved in the work of the center.

鈥淲e hope that students will leave feeling supported and acknowledged, as an important piece of the community of 麻豆传媒,鈥 Ditlevson says. 鈥淚 hope that students feel validated and that they recognize that Kent State is invested in seeing all students succeed.鈥
