The William (Bill) C. Horton Memorial Scholarship was recently endowed at 鶹ý at Trumbull thanks to more than $25,000 in gifts from friends, family and local community organizations. The scholarship will support residents of Trumbull County who are pursuing a degree in business while attending Kent State Trumbull. Special consideration will be given to students who are involved in volunteer activities within the local community.
Horton was born July 23, 1933, in Warren, Ohio. Before retiring in 1997, he owned and operated Horton Electrical Contracting Inc. He was a member of Southington United Methodist Church, IBEW, Trumbull 100, Boy Scouts of America, past president of the Builders Association, SCOPE, past master of West Farmington Masonic Lodge 57, past president of Children's Rehabilitation Board, Southington Township Water Board, Warren Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), Salvation Army Board, Trumbull Shrine Club, Buckeye Club, Buckeye Investors and Air Force Community Council. He passed away Aug. 28, 2013.
Dave Smith, director of advancement at Kent State Trumbull, acknowledges the many contributions that made the scholarship possible.
“The community support that we received to establish this scholarship speaks volumes on how many lives that Bill touched during his lifetime,” Smith says. “Through this endowed scholarship, Bill’s legacy will remain in perpetuity at Kent State Trumbull, recognizing his long-standing support for the local community and assisting future students pursuing a college degree.”
For this current academic year, Kent State Trumbull awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships. The deadline to apply for a 2017-2018 academic year scholarship is May 1.
