Michele Ewing
Biography
Michele Ewing, APR, Fellow PRSA, has more than 30 years of experience in agency and corporate public relations and public relations education.
Before joining the Kent State faculty, Michele was a vice president at Marcus Thomas LLC, an integrated marketing communications agency in Cleveland. During her 12-year tenure at Marcus Thomas, Michele played an active role in the growth of the public relations division with emphasis on the healthcare, internal and marketing communication practices. Prior to Marcus Thomas, Michele worked for two Ohio hospitals.
Michele teaches a range of courses in the undergraduate public relations program including Principles of Public Relations, PR Tactics, PR Campaigns and others. She co-taught the Global Advertising and Public Relations course, which includes a two-week study abroad experience in Europe. In 2006, she developed the Digital Public Relations course as a first step to integrate Web and social media strategies and tactics into the public relations curriculum.
As the public relations sequence coordinator in the School of Media and Journalism, faculty adviser for the Kent State Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA Kent) and a member of national boards and committees focused on public relations education and research, Michele worked to make an impact on the public relations profession. Through studying the pedagogy and practice of public relations with an emphasis on internal communication and leadership development and a secondary focus on digital communication, Michele has contributed to scholarly and professional bodies of knowledge in public relations.
Under her direction, PRSSA Kent has won 10 national PRSSA Teahan awards including 2019 and 2014 Outstanding Chapter in the nation and 2006 and 2019 Outstanding Faculty Adviser. PRSSA Kent also has earned numerous Kent State Student Involvement honors. Michele advised a student team in the Do It Now College Challenge, which was sponsored by Donate Life Ohio and Second Chance Trust Fund, to increase the number of organ and tissue donors in the Ohio Organ Donor Registry. The Kent State campaign won first place in the statewide competition and won a PRSA East Central District Diamond Award. She was named a Kent State Moulton Teaching Scholar.
Michele was honored with the Greater Cleveland PRSA Chapter’s 2014 Davis Young Award for achievement in mentoring. In October 2014, Michele was inducted into the PRSA College of Fellows, which recognizes senior practitioners and educators for their contributions to the public relations profession.
