Our impressive standings in national and international competitions demonstrate JMC’s commitment to building media and communication leaders. Year after year, JMC students produce award-winning work and this year is no exception.
The highly competitive 55th Annual William R. Hearst Journalism Awards Program consists of 14 competitions in college writing, photojournalism, radio broadcast, television broadcast, and multimedia. JMC students already are off to a great start, placing in various categories.

Narrative Multimedia Storytelling – Features
Chelsae Ketchum, a senior visual journalism major, earned a fifth-place finish and a $1,000 award in the Multimedia Features Competition for “,” a profile about a young Akron basketball player with dreams of making it big. Chelsae placed fifth out of 72 entries submitted from 45 schools.
Enterprise Reporting
Daniel Moore, ’14, placed 15th in the Enterprise Reporting Competition for “How the West Has Won,” a thought-provoking multimedia piece about the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation. Daniel placed fifteenth out of 108 enterprise reporting entries submitted from 62 schools.
Intercollegiate Photojournalism
JMC is currently in fifth place in the nation in the Intercollegiate Photojournalism competition.
