ABC Anchor John QuiñDzԱ and Sesame Street Actress Sonia Manzano to Address Students in Franklin Hall

Visits Part of State of the State Conference

“What Would You Do?” anchor John QuiñDzԱ and former Sesame Street actress Sonia Manzano will address students in Franklin Hall, as part the 20th annual State of the State Conference, March 17, 2016.

The State of the State Conference, which celebrates equity, opportunity and diversity, is hosted by Kent State’s Division of Human Resources; Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and Bowling Green State University.

The following sessions take place in Franklin Hall and are free to all students:

  • Manzano, 1 p.m., Room 312/314
  • QuiñDzԱ, 2:30 p.m., First Energy Auditorium (Room 340)

Manzano, who was twice Emmy nominated for her role as Maria in Sesame Street, has also authored several books. She will speak about Latinos and the civil rights movement, based on her book “The Revolution of Evelyn Serrano.” She examines how growing feelings of self-worth in both the African-American and Latino communities gave rise to social programs like Head Start and the United Farm Workers, as well as educational TV programs like Sesame Street.

QuiñDzԱ, who co-anchors the ABC newsmagazine “Primetime” as well as “What Would You Do?”, will ask his audience to take a close look in the mirror as he discusses his new book, “Words of Wisdom about Doing the Right Thing.” QuiñDzԱ has been called the “personification of the moral compass,” and in his new book, takes readers behind the scenes of the show and shares stories from the many parts of his life: from his humble beginnings in the barrios of San Antonio, Texas, to his career as a network journalist.

The theme of this year’s State of the State Conference is Understanding our Past, Embracing our Future: The Intersections of Identity and Change.” For more information, please visit: /hr/sos-conference-2016
