Students from Kent State’s College of Communication and Information (CCI) had the opportunity to network and interview with more than 50 companies focused on media, communications, design and library/information science at the fourth annual CareerExpo on March 4, 2016.
The jobs and internship fair, open exclusively to CCI students, took place at the First Merit Convention Center of Cleveland. Participating companies included thunder::tech, Cleveland news publications and stations, CBS Radio, Marcus Thomas LLC, Doner Advertising and many more.
About 200 students from all four schools within CCI – the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, the School of Communication Studies, the School of Library and Information Science and the School of Visual Communication Design – attended, taking advantage of the opportunity to meet so many potential employers in one afternoon.
Senior journalism major Kimberleigh Anderson, who found her “perfect internship” at ideastream at last year’s CareerExpo, came back this year to find a job for when she graduates in May.
“I am so glad that I get an opportunity like this to come to a career fair and speak to so many employers,” she said. “It’s kind of fantastic to be around not only my peers but around so many other people who can give me feedback on my resume.”
Even for those who weren’t yet looking for a job or internship, being able to hone elevator pitches, interview on the fly and get their names and portfolios in front of Northeast Ohio’s top media and communication businesses and organizations, was an invaluable experience – one unique to Kent State CCI.
"The fact that Kent can get 55 companies from Northeast Ohio shows how strong the journalism and communication programs are, showing that the companies want to come and talk to the students,” said Spencer Smith, senior advertising major. “They know the students are going to be prepared and experienced and have the knowledge that they need in their profession.”
