The photographs of Dave LaBelle, director of photojournalism at JMC, will be featured in “Above the Fold: The Photographers of the The Chanute Tribune,” an exhibit at The Chanute Art Gallery in Chanute,
Kansas. The exhibit runs from September 3 through September 28.
The show will draw from the early and current work of the distinguished photojournalists who have worked for The Chanute Tribune, including LaBelle and Pete Souza, the chief official White House photographer for President Barack Obama and director of the White House Photography Office.
LaBelle shot for The Chanute Tribune from 1977 to 1981. Five of his photographs will be featured in the exhibit, including two photographs he took in Israel in 2012, as part of Kent State’s Jewish Studies Program Comparative Religious Thought II course.
While in Chanute for the exhibit's opening reception, LaBelle plans to reshoot "Baby Walk" (featured at left) 34 years later, with as many as the original subjects as possible.
