JMC students are encouraged to attend an information session with Dr. Trevor Brown, Professor Emeritus
and retired Dean of the Indiana University School of Journalism, who will visit JMC from Nov. 12-14, as part of JMC’s reaccreditation process. Dr. Brown is a member of the Accrediting Committee of the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (ACEJMC). The student session will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the FirstEnergy Auditorium, 340 Franklin Hall. Students may come late or leave early, as their schedules dictate.
JMC has been accredited for nearly 50 years and is the only ACEJMC-accredited school of journalism and communication in Northeast Ohio, and one of only 111 accredited schools in the world. Accreditation signifies that a program meets rigorous national standards for excellence, as evaluated by peers and practitioners in the field.

Professor Emeritus Brown retired as the dean of the IU School of Journalism in 2005, a post he had held for 20 years. Born and raised in South Africa, Brown studied history and English literature at Rhodes University before entering Oxford University in England. He earned a bachelor’s degree in modern history as a Rhodes Scholar, later becoming a sports and general reporter for the Cape Times in South Africa.
He earned a master’s degree in communication and journalism and a Ph.D. in communications from Stanford University.
