Fostering a Passion for Piano

Glauser School of Music鈥檚 Dr. Donna Lee receives the Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award.

The Glauser School of Music is proud to announce that Piano Professor, Dr. Donna Lee, was awarded a . Lee has dedicated her career to teaching students the art of piano, 25 of which have been spent teaching at 麻豆传媒.

Lee discovered her love for piano at a young age. Starting her journey at age five, she was fortunate enough to have her passion for piano fostered by her first teacher, Kathleen Vincent. Lee went on to study at the University of Maryland under Thomas Schumacher, then she attended The Julliard School studying under Rudolf Firkusny. She later went on to receive her DMA. at Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Julian Martin. She credits her love of piano and passion for teaching to the guidance of these teachers.

To Lee, teaching piano performance is a job of discovery. 鈥淪itting at the piano and looking at a score, I'm constantly discovering the brilliance of the composer, even in a piece that I might have played for many years.鈥 She strives to give her students the right set of tools to discover the richness of piano and to make ideal decisions while performing. When students face setbacks, Lee has encouraged them to seek inspiration from the world around them. Whether they attend dance performances, music concerts or theatre productions, Lee invites students to turn to those around them to foster their creativity.
