鶹ý Announces Launch of New Marching Band Scholarship

The Marching Golden Flash Award

Kent, OH — 鶹ý’s College of the Arts and Hugh A. Glauser School of Music are pleased to announce the launch of the “Marching Golden Flash Award.” This new $1,000 scholarship opportunity will be available to all returning members of the Marching Golden Flashes as well as incoming Kent State students. It is open to students of any major starting in the fall 2020 season.

“This new scholarship shows the University’s collective commitment to supporting and continuing the long-standing tradition of the marching arts at Kent State,” said John Crawford-Spinelli, Ed.D., dean of the College of the Arts. “The Marching Golden Flashes is one of the largest student organizations on campus and is also one of the most visible ambassadors of the Glauser School.”

For over half a century Kent State has fielded a full marching band, tracing its roots back to the earliest decades of the University. Members have developed invaluable leadership skills and formed life-long friendships, evidenced by strong alumni involvement well after graduation. Today, the Marching Golden Flashes continue this tradition as a diverse ensemble made up of students from all majors across Kent State. They are an integral part of Kent State Football, contributing to the energy, spirit and enthusiasm of the game-day experience both at home and away. Their fall 2019 season was brought to a sensational close in December with a performance at the Frisco Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.

“I look forward to welcoming back returning members and greeting the newest members of the Marching Golden Flashes this fall,” said Crawford-Spinelli. “They will all be among the inaugural recipients of this new scholarship. It’s going to be a great time to be a Marching Golden Flash.”
