Presentation Title: Types of translation used in “Ten Days That Shook Lithuania”: How are they different and why?
The presentation analyzed the different types of translation used in my recent article about a historic Lithuanian drama festival. Re-reading the article at the close of the NEH “What is Gained in Translation” seminar, I identified about 20 different types of translated texts, including press releases, personal letters and emails, political decrees, newspaper articles, play programs, oral history interviews, handwritten notes, songs, and the written texts of dramatic works. My purpose was to consider how these varied texts presented challenges for a translator by requiring different aesthetic assumptions and translation methodologies.
