IN A FLASH: Valentine's Day at Kent State - in 1983

This spread in the 1983 Chestnut Burr yearbook provides a glimpse of how Kent State students celebrated Valentine's Day 40 years ago. Some sweethearts attended the "Valentine's Cabaret." The caption on these pages reads:

"Touch dancing is not dead at KSU. It was alive and well at the Valentine's Cabaret held at the Student Center Ballroom on Friday, February 11."
"For just a few hours, you could forget all your problems and concentrate on the one that Valentine's Day is: a day for love."

(Editor's note: There may be a word missing from that last sentence.)

On Valentine's Day, students attended a concert by nationally known group Pure Prairie League in the University Auditorium in the Auditorium Building (now named Cartwright Hall) and heard the band perform their (then) recent hit "Let Me Love You Tonight."
