Role of the Ombuds
The Office of the Faculty Ombudsperson is governed by the office Charter.
The Faculty Ombudsperson will:
- Listen to understand
- Clarify issues and areas of concern
- Identify underlying interests and explore multiple perspectives
- Help to develop and evaluate options
- Initiate INFORMAL inquiries to gather information
- Provide information about policy and procedure
- Provide referrals to additional resources
- Advocate for fair processes
- Provide generalized feedback to university leadership in a manner that safeguards confidentiality and anonymity of visitors
The Faculty Ombudsperson will NOT:
- Advocate for any visitor or the university
- Make decisions about how to resolve a situation
- Provide legal advice
- Maintain records of the content of visits
- Participate in FORMAL processes
- Accept notice on behalf of the university, except as required by law or university policy
