Congratulations to Andrew M. Snyder, MPH, BSN, Ph.D. candidate, CPH outreach program director, who was awarded the Ohio Public Health Association’s Distinguished Achievement in Health Equity Service at an awards ceremony on April 25, 2023, in Columbus.

“Snyder’s commitment to promoting health equity and removing systemic and structural barriers that have resulted in health inequities for marginalized communities is truly inspiring,” said Sonia Alemagno, Ph.D., dean of the College of Public Health who nominated Snyder. His dedication, passion, and expertise make him an inspiration to those working to advance LGBTQ+ health and well-being.”

According to his nomination, since 2020, Snyder has secured $450,000 in extramural funding to design, implement and evaluate first-of-their-kind community-based, LGBTQ+ specific community needs assessments in the Greater Akron and now the Greater Cleveland community. The assessment has resulted in the identification of critical gaps in health services and resources for this population. It has led to the development of targeted interventions and investments to address these disparities.

In accepting his award, Snyder stated “As public health professionals and advocates, we play a critical role in advancing health equity for all communities. We must continue to center the voices and experiences of those most impacted by health disparities and work in partnership with communities to develop and implement solutions that address their unique needs and challenges.”
