Support Student Success by Becoming a Flashes 101 Instructor!

The Flashes 101 instructors will create a community of learners that facilitates a sense of belonging and supports student success.

Instructors should have a deep and genuine commitment to undergraduate students, as demonstrated by research mentoring, inclusive teaching practices, academic or career advising, or participation in student success initiatives. Instructors should also demonstrate an understanding of the importance of academic, social and campus/community belonging for student retention and persistence.

The application deadline is Friday, February 16.

What do I need to qualify as an Instructor?
  • Have experience teaching or serving first year students.
  • Be willing to develop a positive relationship with each student in their assigned section.
  • Be willing and available to engage with students over Fall and Spring semesters outside of the classroom. This will include class time, individual meetings, and other intentional follow-up (particularly in the Spring) with students.
  • Be willing to work with and further develop your assigned Peer Success Mentor (PSM)
  • Commit to being present at all sessions of their assigned section.
  • Commit to meet weekly with their assigned PSM to co-design class content and discuss concerns about students.
  • Be willing and available to participate in the assessment of their assigned section.
  • Master’s Degree, in any field
  • Be willing and available to participate in a two-day, in-person Instructor Academy on May 16-17, 2024, at the Kent Campus.

Is this a paid position?

Yes. Instructors will receive $500 for attending the Instructor Academy on Thursday, May 16 & Friday, May 17. 

When will I receive compensation for being an instructor?

Instructors will receive compensation for attending the Instructor Academy on June 30, 2024. 

What happens after I am hired as an Instructor?

Instructors will be asked to select their course section and will be required to attend the Instructor Academy on May 16-17, 2024 at the Kent Campus.
