Shared Past Connects Landscape Artists

Two former Kent State faculty and an alumnus featured in art exhibition

A 鶹ý connection runs through the “Honoring the Land” exhibition featured at the Bostwick Art Design Initiative, located at Prospect and East 26th in Cleveland. Part of the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve traveling exhibition, the satellite gallery and the artists were recently featured in CoolCleveland.

Painter Joseph O’Sickey and sculptor Brinsley Tyrrell both formerly taught at Kent State, and now their work stands side by side at the gallery with work from alumnus and artist Lawrence Baker, a former student of O’Sickey.

The shared past of these artists is represented in their work, according to CoolCleveland.

“For O’Sickey and Tyrrell this includes works that are inspired from their own personal connection to the land they inhabit,” the CoolCleveland article states. “For Baker the location itself is not as personally important as the microcosms he depicts close-up views. These overlapping and diverging interpretations make for a compelling exhibition.”

The “Honoring the Land” show opens Oct. 6 and will be on display through Dec. 2.
