Warren, OH (May 18, 2022) - Â鶹´«Ã½ at Trumbull believes Mercy Health's development of land adjacent to its campus will provide many opportunities for local students.
In Wednesday's release, Mercy Health, part of Bon Secours Mercy Health, one of the 20 largest health systems in the United States and the fifth-largest Catholic health system, announced its intent to develop the 62.88 acres and move hospital operations.
"This is exciting news for our students, campus, and community," said Bill Ayres, Ph.D., dean and chief administrative officer of the Trumbull campus. "We look forward to working with our partners at Mercy Health to explore additional internship and educational opportunities that will support our students and the health care industry in the Mahoning Valley."
Kent State nursing students currently complete practicums at Mercy Health's Trumbull County facilities. The partnership could expand to include clinical and internship opportunities for Kent State students pursuing associate degrees in radiologic and imaging sciences technology, physical therapy assistant technology, occupational therapy assistant technology, respiratory therapy technology, and mammography certification.
Kent State Trumbull's campus currently sits on more than 350 acres, with three academic buildings occupying over 246,000 square feet and a two-acre natural resource in Lake Anne. The Kent State Board of Trustees approved the land sale in October 2020.
"Our mission is to create learning opportunities for our students so that they can create a better world," Ayres said. "This partnership allows us to leverage our strengths as part of Kent State's eight-campus system and our commitment to the businesses, organizations, and people of the Mahoning Valley."
