Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology Receives ABET Accreditation

鶹ý at Tuscarawas has received official word from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) that the Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology is now accredited retroactive to October 1. 2018.

ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in engineering and engineering technology, computing, and applied and natural science. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the program’s profession.

“ABET accreditation means that the Kent State Tuscarawas Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology has been recognized to meet the global standard for technical education in the engineering technology profession,” said Paul Dkyshoorn, director of the engineering technology department. “It paves the way for our graduates to work globally, because ABET accreditation is recognized worldwide through international agreements.”

With ABET accreditation, employment opportunities of program graduates are enhanced, as many multinational corporations require graduation from an accredited program. Additionally,  program graduates can pursue a Professional Engineers license, as graduation from an ABET-accredited program is a minimum qualification.

“We’re very proud of the engineering department staff and faculty for their efforts in achieving ABET accreditation,” said Dr. Bradley Bielski, dean and chief administrative officer at Kent State Tuscarawas. “Not many engineering programs have ABET accreditation, and this opens up many opportunities for the engineering department and for students who graduate from the program.”

The Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology has concentrations in Electrical/Electronics, Mechanical/Systems, Green and Alternative Energy, and Integrated Engineering Technology. The degree can be completed in its entirety at the Tuscarawas Campus.
