The Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Modeling Design prepares students for entry-level positions as technical illustrators, drafter/designer technicians in business and computer animation and game design industries, as well as in the field of multimedia development. Computer-aided design (CAD) is used throughout the program for computer modeling and multimedia development.

The degree program articulates with the , the and other select bachelor's degrees at Kent State.

Admission Requirements

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago.

Kent State campuses at Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas, and the Twinsburg Academic Center, have open enrollment admission for students who hold a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.

What is CAD?  

CAD, or computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), is technology for design and technical documentation, which replaces manual drafting with an automated process. CAD is used in many sectors and services in areas of architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, media, education, and entertainment industries. We use industry-standard software in a well-rounded curriculum to give individual the skills needed to work in different capacities and areas of interest.

The software should be a tool and we first teach the fundamentals for the course objectives so a student can apply the skills on the job regardless of software. However, since we use the industry-standard software in every class, we also ensure that we cover the certification objectives so that the student can take the certification test for the software used.
