A group of 21 secondary school teachers from 20 different countries is spending six weeks at �鶹��ý as part of a Fulbright professional development program for foreign educators.  

For the past month, �鶹��ý has hosted 37 international graduate students as part of the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, a monthlong immersion in American higher education and culture. The group, from 26 countries, arrived on the Kent Campus on July 21 and was scheduled to depart on Aug. 17 to begin their graduate programs at universities throughout the country.  

A professor from Chonnam National University in Gwangju, South Korea, said his recent visit to �鶹��ý enabled him to experience his research into the May 4, 1970, Kent State shootings in a whole new way.

The Read Center has been actively sharing its educational expertise in collaboration with former Fulbright alumni and their education communities in Ukraine and Nigeria, igniting a vibrant exchange of knowledge and learning opportunities.

Amanda Johnson, Ph.D., director of the Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education, has been a driving force for the center’s success.

�鶹��ý is hosting 39 international graduate students for the Fulbright Pre-Academic Program, a monthlong immersion in American higher education and culture. 

Barbara J. Wien, a senior professorial lecturer in the School of International Service at American University in Washington, D.C., where she teaches alternatives to war and violence, was fresh out of college when she made her first visit to what was then, �鶹��ý’s Center for Peaceful Change. She was both a keynote workshop presenter and an active participant in the Kent State-sponsored conference, “Peace Education in an Era of Crisis,” which took place July 11-13 in Kigali.

Delegates attending Peace Education in an Era of Crisis spent three days learning from each other and from the example of the Rwandan people on how to create lasting peace. The conference, which took place July 11-13 in Kigali, Rwanda, was sponsored by �鶹��ý’s School of Peace and Conflict Studies, Kent State’s Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education, the University of Rwanda’s Centre for Conflict Management, and the Aegis Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending genocide and other atrocities in the world. 

�鶹��ý is building on the legacy of May 4, 1970, and the mission of its School of Peace and Conflict Studies, when it joins forces with the University of Rwanda in July to help advance peace education across the globe.
