The Faces of International Education: Racial Justice, Collective Memory and Visual Culture hosted by Dr. Gerardo Blanco,  Associate Professor and Academic Director of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College. The lecture will take place virtually on

International education has been severely impacted by the racial injustice and global challenges present in the past year. Educating for global citizenship in the midst of the racial reckoning in response to anti-Black racism in the United States and beyond, as well as xenophobic and racist attacks against the Asian and Asian American community, fueled by discursive violence associated with COVID-19 scapegoating has caused extraordinary challenges. In unprecedented times such as these, the need for empathy and effective intercultural education has never been more critical for professionals. In this lecture, Dr. Blanco will utilize visual culture as a conceptual tool to analyze the complex connection between international education and racial justice.

Dr. Blanco’s research has been highlighted in international journals focusing on Higher Education and Comparative Education. Along with being a Fulbright Specialist and having received prestigious research awards, Dr. Blanco also serves as visiting expert at Shaanxi Normal University (China) and the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER) at the University of Kassel (Germany).
