Run the World 5K Raises $10,000 for Education-Abroad Scholarships

The second annual Run the World 5K race awarded 10 ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ students each with $1,000 education-abroad scholarships at the Education Abroad Expo on Sept. 15.

The Run the World 5K is an annual race organized by the Office of Global Education and colleges within Kent State to raise money for education-abroad scholarships. Through support of many donors, Kent State colleges and Regional Campuses, the race made it possible to award two more scholarships than last year.

Kristin Stasiowski, assistant dean of international programs and education abroad for the College of Arts and Sciences, says Run the World is the only universitywide fundraiser that directly supports scholarships that can help students take advantage of the more than 200 education-abroad programs offered through Kent State.

β€œIt is our hope that this event can showcase the diversity of our student population, both domestic and international,” Stasiowski says. β€œWe want to bring together our students around the world already benefiting from a Kent State international education.”

The winners of the scholarships are:

  • Brent Hall
  • Kurtis Reid
  • Jimmy Morgan
  • Madison Buty
  • Stephanie Aceto
  • Aaron Cline
  • Maegan Stewart
  • Nicholas Crawford
  • Olivia Mullen
  • Jamieson Alexander

The third annual Run the World 5K will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017.

The ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded.
