Climate Change - Minor

The Climate Change minor aims to provide an overview of the atmospheric sciences, how the climate system works and how humans and the environment interact within it. Students learn about climate change and how to understand and forecast its potential impacts. Students also learn how to apply their knowledge of climate and weather to a variety of interdisciplinary fields, including conservation, health, oceanography and environmental planning.

Minor in Climate Change

Â鶹´«Ã½'s Minor in Climate Change provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, social, and environmental dimensions of climate change. The program explores key topics such as climate systems, environmental impact, and strategies for mitigation and adaptation. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students gain the skills to analyze and address the complex challenges posed by climate change, making it an excellent complement to majors in environmental science, geology, policy, and related fields. The minor prepares graduates to contribute meaningfully to efforts in climate action, sustainability, and environmental management.

  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be upper-division coursework (30000 and 40000 level).
  • Minimum 6 credit hours in the minor must be outside of the course requirements for any major or other minor the student is pursuing.
  • Minimum 50 percent of the total credit hours for the minor must be taken at Kent State (in residence).
Admissions for Climate Change - Minor

Admission Requirements

Admission to a minor is open to students declared in a bachelor’s degree, the A.A.B. or A.A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree (not Individualized Program major). Students declared only in the A.A. or A.S. degree or the A.T.S. degree in Individualized Program may not declare a minor. Students may not pursue a minor and a major in the same discipline.
