M4VC Student Employee Job Description

Position Title: Student Tour Guide
Location: May 4 Visitors Center - 147 Taylor Hall
Reports To: Assistant Director and Director of the May 4 Visitors Center
Hours: 

  • Fall & Spring Semesters: 8-12 hours per week. Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm), occasional Saturdays (1pm - 5pm)

  • Summer: up to 28 hours per week. Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm), no weekends. 

Job Overview:

As a Student Tour Guide, you will help to facilitate a great visitor experience at the May 4 Visitors Center, providing engaging and informative tours to visitors of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tours: Learn and present the story of May 4, 1970. Lead guided tours and tailor tour content to suit different audiences, including children, adults, and special interest groups
  • Engage with audiences: Greet guests, answer questions, and deal skillfully with  diverse visitors under a variety of circumstances
  • Assist with events: Support special events, workshops, and educational programs as needed. Assist with the setup and breakdown of exhibits and events
  • General housekeeping: Daily cleaning tasks, answer phones, research assignments
  • Promote museum Initiatives: Inform visitors about upcoming events, membership options, and educational resources. Assist with marketing and promotional activities

Qualifications:

  • Education: Current KSU student, preferably majoring in history, political science, education, peace and conflict studies, or related field
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of audiences
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively, and reliably, with museum staff and fellow guides, as well as independently
  • Previous experience in education, public speaking, story telling, or customer service is a plus. Candidates should enjoy meeting and interacting with other people, and be  personable, outgoing, and friendly.
