MARCH 14, 2025: ENDING POP AND IMAP SERVICES

*Affected users would have received an email on March 11, 2025.

Affected User Group

Google is ending support for sign-ins that require sharing your Kent State email and password directly. This largely affects those using native mail apps (the Outlook app, the Apple Mail app) on their mobile devices. Failure to take action will result in login errors and blocked email access. Changing your password will not resolve the issue.  Affected users would have received an email on March 11, 2025.

Recommended Fix:

Remove and reconnect your @kent.edu email account within the app you are currently using. Forcing a new addition of that account will reconfigure the login correctly.

MOBILE - Outlook App on : SOMEONE CHECK IF THESE STEPS ARE CORRECT

  1. Access Account Settings: Navigate to "File" in the top left corner, then select "Account Settings".
  2. Select the account: Choose the email account you want to remove from the list.
  3. Delete the account: Click "Remove" to delete the selected account.
  4. Reconnect by clicking "Add Account". Forcing a new addition of that account will reconfigure the login correctly.

MOBILE - Outlook App on

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap Passwords & accounts.
If "Password & accounts" isn’t available, tap any of the following based on your device:
    1. Users & accounts
    2. Passwords, passkeys & autofill
    3. Password, passkeys & accounts
    4. Manage accounts
  3. Under "Accounts," tap Add account.
  4. Tap Google and use your Kent State credentials to sign in.

DESKTOP - Apple Mail on Mac:

  1. Open the Mail app
  2. Select Mail > Settings
  3. Click Accounts
  4. Select the account to remove
  5. Click Remove
  6. Reconnect using "Sign-In with Google"

DESKTOP - older Outlook versions on Windows or Mac:

  1. Access Account Settings: Navigate to "File" in the top left corner, then select "Account Settings".
  2. Select the account: Choose the email account you want to remove from the list.
  3. Delete the account: Click "Remove" to delete the selected account.
  4. Reconnect the account: Click "Add Account" in "Account Settings", then reconnect using "Sign-In with Google"

If your email service is not listed above: follow a similar path by finding where accounts are listed, deleting the @kent.edu account, then reconnecting the @kent.edu account. Forcing a new addition of that account will reconfigure the login correctly.

Alternative Fix:

Access your @kent.edu email through the Gmail app or Gmail on a web browser. Choose "Sign-In with Google" when connecting.
