Designers of Fashionable Prosthesis Covers to Speak at Kent State Museum

The 鶹ý Fashion School and Museum will host a lecture by the team in connection with the museum’s current exhibition “(dis)ABLED BEAUTY: The Evolution of Beauty, Disability and Ability.” The lecture, with remarks by ALLELES Art Director McCauley Wanner and Technology Director Ryan Palibroda, will take place on Friday, February 17, at 3 p.m. in the museum’s Murphy Auditorium. The event includes a reception and is free and open to all.

Based in Victoria, Canada, ALLELES creates stylish prosthesis covers for amputees. Their work is included in “(dis)ABLED BEAUTY,” which showcases assistive and adaptive technologies that have a strong design element, placing them in the context of fashion accessories.

The 鶹ý Museum is located at 515 Hilltop Drive, at the corner of E. Main St. and S. Lincoln St. in Kent, Ohio. The museum is open to the public on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. - 8:45 p.m.; and Sunday from noon - 4:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children under 18. The museum is free with a Kent State ID and free to the public on Sunday. Parking is free. For more information, call 330-672-3450 or visit www.kent.edu/museum.

A second reception and lecture focusing on ALLELES in the context of medical design and technology will take place on Saturday, February 18, at 5 p.m. at the Bit Factory and Spectrum Gallery in Akron, Ohio. This event will also display work created in response to “(dis)ABLED BEAUTY” by local artists from the Miller South School of Visual and Performing Arts, University of Akron and Alternative Noise Productions. The Bit Factory and Spectrum Gallery are located on the fifth floor at 526 S. Main St. (the Akron Global Business Accelerator building). The event is free and open to all.
