Cuyahoga Falls, OH - Porthouse Theatre, 鶹ý’s outdoor, summer theatre located on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, will celebrate its 48th season with productions of “Sister Act,” “Ring of Fire,” and “Footloose.”
Directed by Porthouse executive producer Eric van Baars, “Sister Act” opens June 17 and runs through July 2. A preview performance will take place on June 16. With music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner, Sister Act is based on the hit 1992 motion picture starring Whoopi Goldberg. When nightclub singer Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she ends up in protective custody in a place she never imagined: a convent. Posing as a nun, Deloris’ disco style aggravates Mother Superior and injects new hope and energy into the church and community. Performances are June 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30, July 1 and 2 at 8 p.m and June 19 and 26 at 2 p.m.
Directed by Steven C. Anderson, “Ring of Fire” opens July 8 and runs through July 23. A preview performance will take place on July 7. The music of Johnny Cash comes alive on stage in “Ring of Fire” as a small ensemble weaves a story using some of America’s best-known songs. Created by Richard Maltby, Jr. and conceived by William Meade, “Ring of Fire” is adapted from the Broadway production by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Jason Edwards. Performances are July 7, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 at 8 p.m. and July 10 and 17 at 2 p.m.
Directed by producing artistic director Terri Kent, “Footloose” opens July 29 and runs through August 14. A preview performance will take place on July 28. Based on the hit movie starring Kevin Bacon, “Footloose” is an exhilarating musical that will leave audiences on their feet. When high school student Ren moves from Chicago to a rural town, he isn't prepared for some of the town's strict rules, such as a ban on dancing. Teaming up with the local reverend's daughter, Ren sets out to prove that dancing isn't dangerous but just a fun part of life. Stage adaptation is by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie and is based on the original screenplay by Dean Pitchford. Music is by Tom Snow and lyrics are by Dean Pitchford. Additional music is by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, and Jim Steinman. Performances are July 28, 29, 30 and Aug. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 at 8 p.m. and July 31 and Aug. 7, 13, and 14 at 2 p.m.
