SPIN KSU
鶹ý partners with SPIN to provide shared eBikes and eScooters that are available on campus and within the City of Kent for use by students, faculty, staff, and the community. Approximately 100 eBikes and 300 eScooters are available. Riding an eBike or an eScooter is a fast, easy way to get from class to class, run errands, and even a short commute. They are a great option for students, employees, and visitors to 鶹ý.
How to Use SPIN
- Download the SPIN app in the App Store or Google Play.

GeoZones
Help us keep campus accessible. Text “PARKING” to 330-443-0130 to report a SPIN device parked inappropriately.
SPIN shared eScooters and eBikes must park within one of the designated SPIN GeoZones to end any ride. When riders end a trip, they must park in the GeoZone that appears on the app or SPIN may issue fines for non-compliance. If a ride ends outside of a GeoZone, SPIN will email the user with a warning. If non-compliance continues to be a problem, SPIN may issue a fine. SPIN will relocate bikes and eScooters throughout the day and ensure that they are parked in GeoZones. SPIN can be contacted to pick up or remove any eBikes(s) or eScooter(s) from campus and/or other Kent locations. See the Contact Spin link below.
- Slow Ride and No Ride zones in designated congested areas

Rules and Safety Tips
All eBike and eScooter users need to follow the rules of the road. 鶹ý supports alternative mobility options to best serve the needs of our campus community. The safety of our campus community remains a top priority, and we encourage everyone to Share the Road and look out for their fellow Flashes.
Vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians should be aware of the increasing eBike and eScooter traffic on campus. eBike and eScooter operators must review and adhere to the following rules and safety tips.
Campus Rules to Follow

- eBikes and eScooters must never block pedestrian walkways or ADA access.
- Park eBikes & eScooters in designated parking zones.
- eScooters must be operated at a low speed in the presence of pedestrians.
- eScooters are not permitted inside any building on campus.
- Operators of eScooters or eBikes must not carry passengers.
- Wearing headphones or ear-buds while operating eScooters or eBikes is prohibited.

- Required to follow all university traffic laws and regulations

SPIN SAFE
Available on Spin’s website, Spin Safe Digital provides riders with all the information they need to start and end a trip, the rules of the road, and shows proper parking techniques that are ADA compliant. Spin Safe Digital also provides an overview of Spin’s sanitation practices for keeping employees safe, and minimizing the potential for viral transmission in Spin warehouses, along with best practices for riders to abide by in this ‘new normal.’
Through the Spin Safe online portal, riders are encouraged to watch five different safety videos that address the following topics:
- COVID-19 Safety Protocols
- Getting Started
- On the Road
- Ending Your Ride
- Making Your Community Safer
The website also hosts a safety quiz that reinforces the messages seen in the videos about proper rider behavior, including where to ride and how to park. Scan the QR code on your phone or click on the link below to take the Safety Quiz. If riders score 100% on the quiz, they will earn $5 in Spin credit. Anyone who takes the quiz, regardless of their score, is given the opportunity to order a free helmet, shipped directly to the rider’s home.
Additional Safety Tips
- Wear a helmet. We strongly encourage all riders to wear a helmet to help reduce the risk of severe head injury if an accident occurs.
- Maintain a three-foot minimum distance from pedestrians.
- Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
- Watch the road for uneven surfaces and debris.
- Be wary of puddles and leaves that may hide potholes.
- Dress to be seen, use lights and reflective clothing / gear at night.
- Share the Road and never ride against traffic.
- Eliminate distractions. Do NOT text while riding!
Top 6 Riders Messages
Slow First Ride
First time? Take it slow. Get to know your Spin on a quiet street before kicking it up a notch.
Kick Off to Start
The throttle will not engage the motor unless the scooter is already rolling. Kick three times to get going before your push the throttle.
Keep One Foot in Front of the Other
Riding with your feet staggered makes it easier to shift your weight back and keep your balance if you need to brake suddenly. If your vehicle has a foot brake, keep one foot over the brake.
Stay Relaxed
Keep your arms and knees slightly bent and your body relaxed to maintain balance over bumps in the road.
Watch the Road Ahead of You
Look ahead, not down at the wheels. Watch for bumps or uneven surfaces. If you do need to ride over a bump in the road, always take it head on (at a 90 degree angle).
Shift Your Weight Back to Brake
Shift your weight to your back foot or lean back when you brake. The harder your brake, the more you should shift your weight back. Lean forward slightly when you accelerate.
General Safety Tips
Stay Alert
Please keep your eyes on the road ahead of you and your ears open for traffic and pedestrians.
Slow First Ride
First time? Take it slow. Get to know your Spin on a quiet street before kicking it up a notch. Your vehicle is designed to limit your first ride to 8 mph.
18+ to Ride
Share the road, not the rental. Only the person who rents the scooter is permitted to ride it.
Ride Sober
If you wouldn’t drive, you shouldn’t ride. Riding while under the influence of drugs or alcohol risks serious injury and may result in a DWI.
Ride on Smooth, Paved Surfaces
You are most visible to drivers when riding in the bike lane or street. Riding over grass, gravel, or the sidewalk edge can cause a fall. Ouch!
One Rider Per Vehicle
You may look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two… but this baby was built for one rider only. It is not safe to ride with more than one person at a time, or with packages attached to the handle bars.
