The primary goal of the Office of the Student Ombuds is to provide students confidential consultation in assisting with the possible resolution of any university-related concern, grievance or appeal. The Ombuds Office works directly with faculty and staff, providing consultation related to university policies and procedures. It has established itself as an objective, nonbiased operation that continues to work towards developing a fair and equitable university community.

A Message From the Student Ombuds

Thank you for visiting the Student Ombuds website. As the Student Ombuds, I serve as a confidential, neutral and impartial resource for students and other members of the university. My goal is to provide timely, objective, and strategic information to better assist students, parents, faculty and staff in navigating the myriad policies and procedures of the university in response to concerns or complaints.

The Office of the Ombudsperson makes every effort to maintain confidentiality for its visitors and all parties involved in resolving an issue. The Ombudsperson does not act as a witness or offer information in any student conduct or academic appeal proceeding, as such participation would undermine our commitment to confidentiality.

Please be aware, however, that we are obligated by law or policy to disclose confidential information in certain situations to police or the Title IX Coordinator. For example, when there is an imminent threat of individual or institutional harm; when we are made aware of a crime of violence or a hate crime; and when we are made aware of sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or stalking. Regardless, when reporting such information, only information pertinent and necessary to the report will be shared.

A little about me: I received both my Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Kent State in Community Counseling, and have worked at the university for 25+ years in a variety of positions and departments. I feel very fortunate to call Kent State my vocational home.
