On April 22, 2017, demonstrators around the world will participate in a in a call to support and safeguard the scientific community, fact-based decision making, basic research, and freedom of speech for scientists. Partnering with poet and environmental spokesperson Jane Hirshfield, the Wick Poetry Center will join the marchers at the Teach-In on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
The Wick staff will lead visitors in a poetry-writing exercise to creatively engage with seminal scientific writing. Our #PoetsforScience effort will also showcase twenty 7-foot banners with science-themed poems curated by Jane Hirshfield and designed by Each + Every design studio as well as hundreds of #PoetsforScience posters, which we will hand out before the march and make available for download at satellite marches around the world.
As the only literary arts organization supporting the March for Science effort at the National Mall, we ask for your help. All donations will go toward the #PoetsforScience efforts of the Wick Poetry Center, including the poetry banners and posters, web-page design, and teach-in tent.
