Undergraduate Internship Process & Application

To earn academic credit for an internship, students must have their internship approved by their Internship Coordinator.

Students who have an internship offer, or are currently interviewing for an internship, can complete the Internship Application Form below to have their internship review by their Internship Coordinator. 

Only forms submitted by students who have an internship offer can be considered for academic credit. All other submissions will only receive feedback on the internship experience currently being pursued and will not be processed for registration into the internship course. Students will need to resubmit the form once they have the internship offer to be considered for academic credit. 

After the application has been submitted, it will be reviewed to ensure the student has completed the all prerequisites and that the internship experience meets their program requirements/criteria.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I talk with my advisor to add my internship to my degree plan?

When you have between 40-60 earned credit hours. Schedule an appointment with a CCI Academic Advisor to start planning.

When should I start talking with my Internship Coordinator about internships?

When you have between 50-70 credit hours. However, you can begin these discussions anytime.

What prerequisites must be met before I can take my internship course?

Prerequisites for each internship course are listed in the University Course Catalog. Follow the link to your program's list of courses webpage and find your internship course to view the prerequisites. 

 

How many work hours does my internship need to have?

The work hours required for an internship to be taken for academic credit vary depending on your major. To find out how many hours you need for your internship pre credit hour, find your major's internship course in the . See instructions below:

In addition to talking with my Internship Coordinator, how else can I find an internship?

Students can schedule an appointment with a Career Advisor in Career Exploration and Development to go over resumes, cover letters, interviewing tips and job/internship search resources. 

Students can also create a account and view hundreds of internships. Sort and filter your search by selecting "Internship" under job type.

When will I register for my internship course?

When you have met the prerequisites for your program and your internship application as been approved by your Internship Coordinator.

What qualifies as an approved internship for academic credit?

Each program has its own criteria for an approved internship experience. Review your program's internship webpage and/or contact your Internship Coordinator if you have questions about the criteria.
