�鶹��ý track and field’s  has been named one of the Mid-American Conference’s two nominees for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the NCAA announced on Aug. 1.

Established in 1991 and now in its 27th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Dementia affects one-third of all people older than 65 years in the United States. The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive, irreversible brain disease that results in impaired cognitive functioning and other behavioral changes. Humans are considered uniquely susceptible to Alzheimer’s disease, potentially due to genetic differences, changes in brain structure and function during evolution, and an increased lifespan. 

�鶹��ý is again showing its appreciation to our nation’s service members by hosting a military-exclusive hospitality chalet for veterans, service members and their families during the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron on Aug. 2-6.

The National League for Nursing has again designated �鶹��ý’s College of Nursing as a Center of Excellence for 2017-2022 in the category of “Advance the Science of Nursing Education.” The use of leading-edge educational technology allows the college’s students to learn and practice the skills needed to become future nurse scientists, educators and practitioners. By maintaining academic excellence, students are equipped for high-acuity situations as critical thinkers, leaders and innovators.

WKSU reporters have won nine awards in the Ohio’s Best Journalism Contest, sponsored by the Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). The competition recognized station staff for work created in 2016. Highlights of WKSU honors include Best Radio News Operation in Ohio and Best Radio Reporter in Ohio for M.L. Schultze, who submitted a selection of her Election 2016 coverage.
