Â鶹´«Ã½ faculty, staff and students are invited to join in creating Holiday Peace Baskets on Saturday, Dec. 7, between 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the King Kennedy Center, 6660 Garfield Rd., Ravenna. Two shifts will run on that day, from 9-11 a.m., and from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
To attract and retain the strongest journalism and mass communication students in the nation, Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) is introducing a financial award program specifically designed for first-time freshmen in Fall Semester 2014.
Â鶹´«Ã½ Health Services has been reaccredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). The AAAHC develops standards to advance and promote patient safety, quality care and value for ambulatory healthcare through peer-based accreditation processes, education and research.
Dr. Cortés Núñez is a marine biologist interested in studying the Biological Diversity of Marine ecosystems in Costa Rica. In particular, his scientific work focuses on the study of the structure of reef communities in Costa Rica. His research aims to establish natural variation of reef populations and the effect of human activity on these communities.
Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Wick Poetry Center presents the World Poetry Reading, a celebration of poetry from around the globe, on Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Room 317 at the Kent Student Center. The event is free and open to public.
The event, co-sponsored by Kent State’s Office of Global Education, will feature 12 readers from places such as Hungary, Syria, Colombia, Jordan, Georgia, Malaysia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Russia, Germany, China and Saudi Arabia. They will share poems from their home countries.

Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Transfer Center has relocated from Room 108 to Room 204 in the Schwartz Center to provide easy access for all current and future transfer students. The Transfer Center also has online access for students who cannot make the trip to its Kent Campus location.
In observance of Veterans Day, Â鶹´«Ã½ will be closed Nov. 11 and will reopen Nov. 12.

This year, Â鶹´«Ã½ will hold the 55th commemoration honoring the memory of May 4, 1970, a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard fired on Kent State students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students, wounding nine others and sparking a turning point in American history. Kicking off the program for the annual May 4 Commemoration is a play that focuses on student activism and book bans.
The Â鶹´«Ã½ Board of Trustees endorsed the 2024 University Remediation Report at its Dec. 12 meeting. The report provides a comprehensive overview of student remediation at the university.
Â鶹´«Ã½ will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. No classes are scheduled, and university offices are closed.
Â鶹´«Ã½ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.
The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the Kent State Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.
All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to Kent State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.
A reception in the Kent Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Kent Student Center Kiva.
