Kent State Online Design Build Teach

The Design training pathway provides foundational knowledge and best practices for designing fully online courses. The courses in this pathway explore topics such as the Backward Design process, learning outcomes, selecting learning materials, developing an assessment plan, and structuring course content so that the learning experience is consistent, organized, and appropriately sequenced. The design process will provide you with a guide that you can use to build your fully online course in the Canvas learning management system later. 

Pathway Learning Outcomes

By the end of this pathway, you'll be able to:

  1. Explain Backward Design as the foundation for online course design.鈥
  2. Write measurable, specific course learning outcomes based on essential understandings.
  3. Create an assessment plan that allows students to demonstrate mastery of course learning outcomes.鈥
  4. Select learning materials that align with course outcomes and provide an engaging experience for students.鈥
  5. Create a course structure to organize your content to sequence learning properly.鈥
  6. Recognize accessibility considerations and design your course with accessibility in mind. 

Get Started!

Getting started is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Explore the courses below and select the ones (s) that interest you.
  2. After you select a course, you will be re-directed to Canvas, our Learning Management System (LMS), where you will be prompted to log in using your FlashLine credentials.
  3. Next, choose Enroll in Course, and you will be added to the Canvas course. You can begin to participate immediately or return later from your Canvas Dashboard.

    Create a learning path for your students by structuring your course into specific units, or 鈥渕odules,鈥 considering length, sequence, module-specific outcomes, introductions, and summaries.
