Kent State fashion design and business student Madeline Mehler's new clothing business, Sultrie, aims to add to the sustainable fashion movement.

These days, consumers can buy the latest clothing trends quickly and inexpensively. Critics, however, maintain that this “fast fashion” can be detrimental to the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 84 percent of unwanted clothes in the United States in 2012 went into either a landfill or an incinerator. Dear Members of the 鶹ý Community: The White House announcement to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, has raised concerns among students and their families — including the Kent State family. The DACA program has provided a path to citizenship for approximately 800,000 undocumented young people, who came to the United States with their parents as small children. Flag Presentation

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Master Sergeant Troy Eckenrode and his wife and 鶹ý at Trumbull staff member, Maribeth Eckenrode, presented the campus with the Flag of our country, “Old Glory.” The flag was originally flown on Nov. 5, 2016, aboard a C-130H in the face of the enemy during a combat mission against ISIS forces in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. It was on board aircraft 90-9108, call sign Bandage 32, operating over the skies of Iraq. The Kent Stater and TV2 are up for several national awards from the College Media Assocation (CMA) for work produced during the 2016-17 academic year. The Kent Stater, 鶹ý’s independent student newspaper, is one of four finalists for CMA's Pinnacle Award for Four-Year Daily Newspaper of the Year.  With this final four distinction, the Stater, joins the ranks of The Daily Northwestern of Northwestern University, The Daily Texan, of the University of Texas at Austin and The Daily Pennsylvanian of the University of Pennsylvania.
