Note: Gretchen Hoak is a former television reporter/anchor and current assistant professor of journalism in 麻豆传媒鈥檚 School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Her research survey, ,  focused on how universities prepare young journalists for the trauma they may endure in covering violence. Kent State Today asked Hoak to share her thoughts on the impact the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton will have on the reporters assigned to cover these events.

Kent State volunteers serve home-cooked meals to Kentway residents.

Every other Tuesday, student volunteers from the Campus Kitchen at 麻豆传媒 prepare dinner for the residents of the Kentway Apartment Complex, a government-subsidized housing complex on East Summit Street in Kent. At 5 p.m. residents gather in the dining hall and volunteers serve the meal which is prepared from food donated by Trader Joe鈥檚.

The class began with the normal jockeying of students 鈥 some trying to find a seat, others attempting last-minute reviews with classmates before they had to present group projects, still others racing in at the last minute.
