Marcia Lei Zeng, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, co-presented (with Jian Qin, Ph.D., Syracuse University) a paper titled “Linking Bioinformatics Research Data and Publications Through Metadata and Knowledge Organization Systems,” on Oct. 15, 2016, at the 16th European Networked Organization Systems (NKOS) Workshop at the International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications in Copenhagen, Denmark.
 

Feng-Ru Sheu, Ph.D., University Libraries, and Yin Zhang, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, (along with a visiting scholar) won the 2017 ALISE/Bohdan S. Wynar Research Paper Competition at the ALISE Annual Conference with their research paper “Understanding Twitter Use by Major LIS Professional Organisations in the U.S.”

Lala Hajibayova, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, was co-organizer of a panel titled “Crowdsourcing approaches for knowledge organization systems: Crowd collaboration or crowd work” on Oct. 18, 2016, at the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) annual conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. Richard Feinberg, Ph.D., Department of Anthropology, served as commentator on “ASAO Histories” during the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania’s meeting held Feb. 20, 2017, in Lihu’e, Hawaii. On the 50th anniversary of its founding, the association is compiling a history of the association. Several long-term association members presented formal papers. Feinberg’s role was to offer critical commentary, add missing pieces and correct errors, based on his four decades of experience, including many years in a variety of leadership positions.

This past year, Feinberg was elected to the status of Honorary Fellow. At the 2017 meeting, he was formally honored by the association and assumed his new position.

Marianne Martens, Ph.D., School of Library and information Science, presented a paper titled “Subversively addressing information poverty: Alma Flor Ada, social justice, and the quest for bilingual books in America 1970-2014” as part of a panel called “Dismantling Information Poverty in Cultural Production for Young People,” on Oct. 17, 2016, at the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) annual conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Haithem Zourrig, assistant professor in the Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship at Kent State Stark, and his co-author Mengxia Zhang, professor of marketing at University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China, have received a Best Paper Award in Cross-cultural and Global Marketing Track, at the Society for Marketing Advances (SMA) conference Nov. 2-5, 2016.

Catherine L. Smith, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, and Miriam Matteson, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, led a roundtable discussion on “Search expertise in student library workers: Making complex information systems more useable” at the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) annual conference in Wilmington, Ohio, on Oct. 28, 2016.

Ben Woods, School of Library and Information Science, delivered a keynote address on “Designing the Future of Libraries with UX” at a preconference workshop of the Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) annual conference in Wilmington, Ohio, on Oct. 27, 2016. 

Miriam Matteson, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, co-presented (with Kara Reuter) “Real World Assessment: Using Data to Evaluate Library Products and Services” at the Ohio Library Council annual conference on Sept. 29, 2016, in Sandusky, Ohio.
