Despite hurdles caused by the pandemic, Media and Journalism students produced award winning work in several national and regional contests this past year. Read on for a summary of what they accomplished
Sean Fitzgerald is a senior honors student, graduating with a major in journalism and a minor in sports administration. Originally from Strongsville, Ohio, Sean says that the Honors College has come to feel like a second home in his four years at Kent State. In fact, Sean recalls moving back to the Stopher-Johnson honors residence halls in the fall of 2020 and accidentally saying to his family, “I’m headed home!â€
Lindsey Sellman, a senior Honors College student majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing, has spent her final year at Kent State as the Editor-in-Chief of . Luna Negra is a student-led literary and arts magazine in Kent State’s Student Media department. Since 1956, the magazine has changed names and departments, but maintained its tradition of publishing the art and writing of Kent State students.
Kent State students envision a new way for newsrooms to connect with audiences: a two-way text-messaging communication channel. The idea is part of the Reynolds Journalism Institute’s 2020-21 Student Innovation competition.
