About Quilters
Running June 17 - July 3, "Quilters" is directed and choreographed by Porthouse's Producing Artistic Director Terri Kent and music directed by Jennifer Korecki.
With book by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek and music and lyrics by Barbara Damashek, "Quilters" is the story of a pioneer woman and her six daughters and blends a series of interrelated scenes into a rich mosaic which captures the sweep and beauty, the terror and joy, the harsh challenge and abiding rewards of frontier life. Illuminating stories contained in various patches or “blocks” with music, dance and drama, the action depicts the lot of women on the frontier: girlhood, marriage, childbirth, spinsterhood, twisters, fire, illness and death. But, with this, there is also love, warmth, rich and lively humor and the moving spectacle of simple human dignity and steadfastness in the face of adversity.
Porthouse Theatre's production of "Quilters" features Terri Kent as Sarah/Mother; and Danielle Dorfman, Stella Fisher, Hannah Hensler, Israeljah Khi-Reign, Megan Polk, and Alexis Wilson as the Daughters. Cameron Olin is the swing.
The "Quilters" production team includes costume design by Michelle Hunt Souza, lighting design by Cynthia R. Stillings, scenic design by Ben Needham, sound design by Parker Strong, prop management by Travis Daniel Williams, and technical direction by Devin Gallo. Tom Humes is the productions stage manager. Rohn Thomas is assistant director.
Quilters is presented through special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service.
