Ceramic Artist Anna Callouri Holcombe to Visit Kent State's School of Art, Dec. 6-7

Ceramic artist Anna Callouri Holcombe will visit the Â鶹´«Ã½ School of Art on Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7, presented by the School of Art, the Ceramics Club and the Michener Lecture Serie

Ceramic artist Anna Callouri Holcombe will visit the Â鶹´«Ã½ School of Art on Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7, presented by the School of Art, the Ceramics Club and the Michener Lecture Series.

Holcombe will visit the Ceramics Studio on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During her visit to the Ceramics Studio, a lecture on her research on European and Chinese porcelain will be included. She also will share some demonstrations in the studio.

On Friday, Dec. 7, at noon,  Holcombe will present a free, public lecture in room 202 of the Art Building, located at 325 Terrace Drive in Kent. During her public lecture, Holcombe will speak on her development as an artist.

Holcombe is the director of the School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida. She has previously taught at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, State University of New York at Brockport and Kansas State University. She received a BA from Montclair State University and an MFA in ceramics from Louisiana State University. She has lectured and held residencies internationally.

Holcombe writes in her artist statement, "My intention in this work is to capture the arcane obscure qualities of everyday mundane objects." Her work utilizes different shapes and formats, including the tondo (round relief), porcelain slipcast vessels and boxes. Holcombe uses specialized ceramic techniques for her work, including utilizing tarpaper to create more stable walls and boxes.
