Kent State ROTC Cadets Honor Veterans, Plant Daffodil Bulbs on May 4 Site

As part of Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s annual Veterans Day Commemoration, cadets from the university’s ROTC programs joined staff from University Facilities Management and other volunteers on the site of the May 4, 1970, tragedy to plant daffodil bulbs. As a living memorial, 58,175 daffodils were originally planted – one for each U.S. service member killed in Vietnam.

The daffodil bulb planting is an opportunity for the Kent State community to reflect on the events of May 4 and to demonstrate its commitment to the university’s core values of respect, kindness and the peaceful exchange of ideas. Born from this tragedy, these core values provide the foundation of Kent State’s internationally lauded work in healing divided communities with peaceful conflict resolution.
