Kent State’s Herb Page to Coach International Team at 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup in France

, 鶹ý’s director of golf and head men’s golf coach, has been selected to serve as one of the head coaches of the International team at the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup on July 6-8 at Evian Resort Golf Club in France.

Page will team with Stanford University head women’s coach Anne Walker as the top college golfers from around the world take on the top college golfers in the United States. The 2018 event expands the Ryder Cup-style team format that previously featured college players from Europe battling the USA. It is also the only major tournament in the world that will feature men’s and women’s players.

Page is a native of Markham, Ontario, and Walker is from Lanarkshire, Scotland. The USA team will be coached by Oklahoma University men’s coach Ryan Hybl and Ohio State University women’s coach Therese Hession.

“I am incredibly honored to be selected with Anne Walker to coach the International side in the Arnold Palmer Cup,” Page said. “It’s a tribute to 鶹ý, our golf program, all of the great players who have competed for us, our boosters and what they have all done to put me in this situation. In my world, it is just phenomenal to be the inaugural coach of the world team.”

The players for the USA and International teams will be announced on March 16, 2018, during the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida.

“March 16 also just happens to be my birthday,” Page said. “This isn’t a ceremonial position. There will be a lot of strategy involved for Anne and me. I think it’s going to be a collaborative effort … The selection committee, with some input from us, will put together a great team.

“Our pool of players is now truly worldwide. It should make our team a lot stronger … And, I have a good resource. Ben Curtis, who was a champion for us at Kent State before he won the 2003 British Open, won the Palmer Cup, the World Amateur and the Ryder Cup, so he may have some valuable input on an international team format like this.”
