To receive this distinction, Kent State Salem had to meet the Tree Campus USA’s five standards, providing detailed documentation for each standard. Dr. Rachael Blasiman was recognized as the outstanding fulltime faculty member. She is an assistant professor of psychology and has taught on the Salem Campus for seven years. The No. 15 Âé¶ą´«Ă˝ women’s golf team won its 19th straight Mid-American Conference (MAC) Women’s Golf Championship on April 23 at the Silver Lake Country Club in Silver Lake, Ohio. The Golden Flashes, who have won every championship tournament put on by the MAC, won the tournament by 34 strokes. The tournament hosts posted a final score of 11-over par 875 (289-299-288). In total, Kent State will confer 5,636 degrees, including 992 associate degrees, 3,319 bachelor’s degrees, 1,139 master’s degrees, 181 doctoral degrees and five educational specialist degrees. Six students in the occupational therapy assistant (OTA) program at Kent State East Liverpool recently attended the American Occupational Therapy Assistant annual conference and Centennial Celebration in Philadelphia, during which attendees observed 100 years of occupational therapy. These days, consumers can buy the latest clothing trends quickly and inexpensively. But, critics say, this “fast fashion” can be detrimental to the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 84 percent of unwanted clothes in the United States in 2012 went into either a landfill or an incinerator. The EPA also says the materials that the fast-fashion companies use cannot be composted, cause the greenhouse gas methane and directly affect climate change.
