Faculty Funding Sources

FUNDING SOURCES FOR TRAVEL, TEACHING & RESEARCH 

 
Stark Faculty Travel Fund

Funding for travel to professional conferences, performances and exhibitions. All full-time faculty members are eligible. TT (tenure-track or tenured) and FTNTT (non-tenure-track) faculty can receive up to $1,200 in funding.


Load Lifts

Reduction in teaching load (typically 3 credit hours) to work on a project relevant to the applicant's research or teaching. All full-time faculty members eligible, with preference given to untenured faculty and applicants who have not recently received a load lift. NTT faculty may only apply for teaching load lifts. Load lift applications for the upcoming academic year are usually due in early April.


Center for Teaching and Learning

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has a primary mission to provide opportunities, leadership, and support for all faculty to grow in their scholarly and professional endeavors. The long term aim is to support community members in the process of creating, transforming, and/or maintaining Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s environments for learning as spaces where all students can succeed.


Farris Family Innovation Fund for Early Achievement

Thanks to the generosity of the Farris Family, strong supporters of the University, the Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation maintains an endowment to support the research of tenure-track faculty members who are not yet tenured. That endowment creates annual income sufficient to support several Farris Family Fellowships. 


Division of Research & Economic Development

Supporting a variety of research activities, applicants can receive from $100 to $2,500 ($3,500 for projects involving undergraduate students) for materials, supplies, travel expenses, conferences, publication costs and guest speakers.


Locating and securing research funding is becoming increasingly competitive, as funding opportunities are limited and the number of researchers vying for those dollars continues to grow. Pivotâ„¢ answers the growing demands on research developers to quickly discover the right funding opportunities and effectively collaborate with their colleagues. 


University Teaching Council

Supports and encourages outstanding teaching in a variety of ways, including travel support, Teaching Conference and Development Grants, Workshop Grants and Summer Teaching Grants. Full- and part-time faculty eligible.


Professional Improvement Leave (Sabbatical)

The university permits a tenured faculty member who has completed at least seven years of full-time service to the university and has the rank of assistant professor or higher to be freed of instructional or official responsibilities and granted a faculty professional improvement leave for the purposes of: upgrading professional skills; acquiring new skills; or intellectual and professional development that will be of benefit to the individual and to the university.
