Distance Learning at Stark Campus

DEVELOPING FULLY ONLINE COURSES

Fully online indicates that no on-campus class time is scheduled. However, proctored testing may still be required.

  • Proctored Testing
  • A fully online course must be approved by Â鶹´«Ã½ at Stark administration and your Kent department. That is, just because you want to teach it does not mean that you will get to teach it.

DEVELOPING HYBRID COURSES

Hybrid indicates that on-campus class time is regularly scheduled but a minimal of 50% of the course is online.

  • A hybrid course must be approved by Â鶹´«Ã½ at Stark administration.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Online and hybrid courses are expected to maintain the same enrollment capacity as on-campus courses.
  • Online and hybrid instructors should anticipate that preparation for these courses is very intense.
  • Online and hybrid instructors should be comfortable using basic technology, including Canvas tools.
  • Online and hybrid instructors should begin designing new online courses a year in advance.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING

  • Attend faculty training workshops.
  • Participate in the Stark Campus Distance Learning Community of Practice (DLCoP).
  • Thoroughly explore Kent State's Online Teaching site for detailed information before developing a course.
  • Take advantage of your colleagues' experience, as well as your instructional designer, before you begin preparing for a course.
